Hello, my name is Matthew Thompson.
I am a doctoral research student at the Geographic Data Science Lab at the University of Liverpool. I research the qualities of green spaces, ecological functions and human wellbeing. My background is in ecology and wildlife conservation, earning my BSc (Hons) and MSc with the University of Chester, where I went on to become a learning facilitator and visiting lecturer in Natural Sciences. I was commited to sharing knowledge and fostering a deeper appreciation for natural and biological sciences.
As an independent academic coach and consultant.
In 2024 I opted to move into a freelance role as an independent academic coach while continuing my PhD. Through my academic coaching, I move beyond tutoring. Academic coaching is about a student-centred approach to engage, monitor, assess and hold accountability for their progression. Though tutoring is a key component of academic coaching, the focus is to drive the student to learn and develop themselves, similar to the principles and concepts of higher education learning in a university environment.
As an experienced Higher Education (HE) Academic Coach, I offer client-centered coaching and mentoring to students and professionals who aspire to excel in the fields of Geographic Data Science, Natural Sciences and Ecology. My services are designed to empower you with the skills to succeed in academia and develop your progression route.
Unlock your full academic potential with my structured coaching packages, designed to support and guide you through your educational and professional development journey. Whether you're navigating the complexities of academic research or simply starting out as an undergraduate, my services are tailored to deliver continuous support and measurable growth.
